Academic Burnout And Sweet Food Consumption Patterns Among Students Of The Faculty Of Medicine, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta
Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the relationship between academic burnout and sweet food consumption patterns among undergraduate medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta. This quantitative, analytical study employed a cross-sectional design and involved 96 students from the Class of 2023, selected using convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Maslach Burnout Inventory–Student Survey (MBI-SS) and a modified Emotional Eating Scale (EES), then analyzed using the Chi-Square test via IBM SPSS Statistics software. The results showed that the majority of respondents fell into the academic burnout score category of at or below the sample median (53.1%). The proportion of respondents with high-level sweet food consumption was greater among those with academic burnout scores above the median compared to those with scores at or below the median (54.3% vs. 40.0%), bivariate analysis revealed no significant relationship between academic burnout and sweet food consumption patterns (p = 0.159). In conclusion, academic burnout is not significantly associated with sweet food consumption patterns as a form of emotional eating among medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, UPN “Veteran” Jakarta.
