Abstract

This study aimed to improve the learning outcomes of Grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 6 Sungaiselan in learning mathematics by applying the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. This research was classroom action research study consist of two cycles. Each cycle consist of planning, implementing actions, evaluating observations, and reflecting. The subjects of this study were 30 students of VIII D class. The object of research was an increase in learning outcomes which include learning outcomes of knowledge and skills competencies. To measure student learning outcomes in mathematics used test results in the form of multiple choice learning outcomes for knowledge learning and description tests to measure the results of learning competency skills provided at the end of each cycle. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results of data analysis show that the application of PBL learning models in mathematics learning can improve student learning outcomes. The average learning outcomes of knowledge in the first cycle was 78.22 with 73.33% classical completeness showed an increase from initial reflection was 14.61 (22.97%) and classical completeness increased by 9.04%. The average skill learning outcomes in the first cycle of 77.87 with a classical completeness of 70.00% showed an increase from the initial reflection was 14.12 (22.15%) and classical completeness increased by 9.29%. The average knowledge learning outcomes in the second cycle of 84.67 with 93.33% classical completeness showed an increase from the first cycle of 6.45 (8.25%) and classical completeness increased by 20.00%. The average skill learning outcomes in the second cycle was 84.00 with a classical completeness of 90.00% showed an increase from the first cycle was 6.13 (7.87%) and classical completeness increased by 20.00%.
